How in the world can we be dead and yet still be living? The Bible says that unless Jesus gives a person LIFE, he or she is spiritually dead and separated from God. The implication is that most people are just “existing” on planet earth, not really “living.” Maybe you are one of them.

The Apostle John wanted to make it clear that we understood the true nature of His Master. He said that Jesus “Possessed LIFE in His very being, and this LIFE was the light of men” (Jn. 1:4). What the Bible refers to as LIFE comes from the Greek word zoe which points to a quality of LIFE above and beyond one’s normal existence. At the core, it is “spiritual life,” that is, when we possess this LIFE, it makes us truly “alive.” Jesus said, “As the Father has LIFE (zoe) within Himself, He gave this same LIFE (zoe) to His Son” (Jn. 5:26). And because He lives, Jesus can give this same LIFE today to us.   

Jesus said, “I have come so that you might have LIFE (zoe)…” (Jn. 10:10). In fact, Jesus is the One who gives this LIFE to anyone who asks for it. It was Jesus Himself who said, “The Son gives LIFE to those whom He is pleased to give it” (Jn. 5:21). And to whom is He pleased to give it? To anyone who earnestly seeks Him and comes to Him in humility and faith. Don’t be like the religious leaders of Jesus’ day of whom Jesus said, “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life, but you refuse to come to Me so that you may have LIFE” (Jn. 5:39-40). The moment we come to Him, believing that the Father sent His Son to give us LIFE, then, as Jesus said, we “…pass out of death into LIFE” (Jn. 5:24). If you haven’t received His LIFE, then just ask Him. It’s time for you to start “LIVING!”
