One of the foundation stones of any marriage is trust. When suspicion is present in any relationship, the foundation begins to crack and will eventually crumble. Like in any marriage, an essential element of having a meaningful relationship with God is learning to trust Him to be faithful in keeping the promises He has given us.  

Every Christian believes that when Jesus died on the cross, He died for our sins (Rom. 5:8). And, every Christian believes that when we repent and confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive and cleanse us (1 Jn. 1:9). This is what we call “Saving Faith,” that is, the faith that is necessary to bring salvation to any person. But that’s just the beginning, as every Christian must also have a “Living Faith” that is present and active each and every day. The Bible is clear — “Without faith, it is impossible to please God” (Heb. 11:6). So, what does this “Living Faith” look like? 

A “Living Faith” is one in which we are OK, and even comfortable, living with the unknown. This kind of faith is expressed in a conversation with God which may go something like this: 

God, I don’t know what you are doing, but I am going to trust you anyway. I don’t know how it’s all going to work out, but I am at peace. I don’t need to figure it out because I know that in spite of my current circumstances, I can trust you to provide the right solution at just the right time.    

The key to having a “Living Faith” is to trust Him at times when you don’t understand; when you don’t have the answers; and when it seems like what is happening is just the opposite of what you expected or were hoping for. God wants to strengthen your faith, and so there are times when He will put your faith to the test. God loves you and wants the very best for you. In fact, the Bible says that if you love Him, you can be confident that He is, “…working all things out for your good (Rom. 8:28). 

So, let’s quit worrying and start trusting. It’s never too late. Why not begin today?
