Reviewing today’s verse from the Old Testament Book of Isaiah,   

The is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength…” (Isaiah 30:15).

In this verse, Isaiah provides answers to two of the most important questions that we often ask, and today, we will focus upon the second question. If you missed my response to the first question, you can find it on my website.

• How can I find salvation for my soul?
• How can I find strength to face the challenges of each day?

As noted in my previous blog, Isaiah begins by stating the origin of his prophetic words, specifically, they came the “Lord God” (“Adonai Jehovah”) or as some translations say, the “Sovereign Lord.” The Lord further identified Himself as the “Holy One of Israel,” that is, the One who is without sin or blemish, the One who had redeemed Israel from the hand of Pharaoh. Isaiah provided this final identification mark so that there would be no mistake about the source of his prophetic words that follow.

Now for the second question: “How can we find strength to face the challenges of each day? Isaiah tells us that this strength is found in being “quiet” before the Lord, and being “quiet” means that we simply rest while we “trust” in the promises that God has given us in His Word. There is no need to strive or fuss about the challenges that we may be facing. Being assured of this truth, we can “rest” and be “quiet” in Him, knowing that He has our “backs” as well as our best interests at heart.

Furthermore, when we trust in God’s promises, the result is confidence and strength. It means that we aren’t given over to fear or despair because we trust in God’s love for us. And it is this love that motivates Him to fill us with courage and confidence to face the struggles and challenges of each day.  

As we wrap up today’s blog, I want us to realize that there is no one more confident and more at peace than a child of God who is quietly resting and trusting in the promises of the living God. If you haven’t been doing that, then there is no better time to begin.
