Proverbs 3:5-6

In this verse, we find Solomon’s wisdom providing a confident guide for our future:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Because God’s ways are higher and better than our ways, it seems natural that we would want God to “DIRECT OUR PATHS” so that we can bear fruit and experience His blessings along the road that we travel. We must first realize that the promise of this verse for God to direct our paths is a “conditional” promise, that is, Solomon placed “conditions” upon the fulfillment of that Promise. So, what are those conditions?

First, we must learn to “TRUST” Yahweh (the name of God) with all of our hearts. No holding back, like a child whom Jesus always pointed to as an example of humility, we need to humble ourselves before God and simply place our trust in him.

Second, we must not “LEAN ON OUR OWN UNDERSTANDING.” Let’s remember that God wants us to gain wisdom and understanding, but Solomon call us not to “LEAN” on it, that is, we are not to trust our understanding alone. We must open our hearts and minds to receive God’s wisdom and allow Him to make any adjustments or mid-course corrections in the path we are taking.

And finally, we are to “ACKNOWLEDGE HIM IN ALL OUR WAYS.” That is, we are to acknowledge God in the process of discovering the path we should take, and that means that we need to submit to His guidance. Like the Good Shepherd in Psalm 23, we are to allow Him to guide us in “the paths of righteousness.”

If we submit ourselves to the CONDITIONS OF THIS PROMISE, He promises to “DIRECT OUR PATHS.” And if you are a Christ-follower, that should be the desire of your heart.

So, Friends, if you want to receive the blessings of following the Lord’s leading, let’s remember the conditions that Solomon placed on this promise:

  • TRUST
  • DON’T LEAN ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING
  • ACKNOWLEDGE HIM IN ALL YOUR WAYS

I pray that each of us will acknowledge and submit to these conditions and then walk along the path that He has prepared for us.

Sincerely, Jim Price

AMEN!! I certainly appreciate your posts. I trust all is going well for you.
Without Lori it has left a hole, or rather a big part of me after 65 years together. Her love for her Lord was intense, and such a blessing, as well as a strength to me. A godly wife, to me comes after what Christ did for me and what the Holy Spirit has done for me through the years. Together she was such an encouragement and strength to me, with her wisdom and godly outlook on the Christian life, as well as her heart for people. Women have shared how much of a blessing she was to them, whether in telling them the gospel or teaching them through the Bible.
Keep pressing on my dear Christian brother. God never will miss one saint in their rewards in heaven.
